Some of the special effects in The Princess Bride are, by today's standards, pretty crappy. But that really doesn't matter because the script is so intelligent, original and funny that a little thing like a giant rat that looks like a guy in a giant rat-suit doesn't detract from enjoying the film at all.
The "princess bride" is Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright Penn), who is in love with a lowly farm-boy (Cary Elwes), but who has been chosen to be the wife of Prince Humperdink (Chris Sarandon). Buttercup is kidnapped, however, is kidnapped by the a man named Vizzini (Wallace Shawn), and his two hired assistants, Fezzik (the late Andre the Giant) and Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin). They plan on using Buttercup in a political set-up to start a war between two rival kingdoms. Their plans are thwarted however, as soon as they notice that they're being followed by a mysterious man in black who turns out to be the dangerious Dread Pirate Roberts.
All this writing, and I've really only summed up the first half or so of the film. One of the great things about The Princess Bride is how varied and interesting all the characters are. They all have unique back-stories and motivations, and despite the fairly short running time of an hour-and-a-half, the film gives a fair amount of time to all of them. For instance, consider the hilarious initial meeting between Inigo Montoya and the man in black. They strike up a conversation, and immediately come to respect and admire one another. But, because Inigo has been hired to kidnap Buttercup, and because the man in black intends to rescue her, they grudgingly decide that they must fight each other to the death, even though Buttercup had long been whisked away from the scene by Vizzini and Fezzik.
There's lots of other funny stuff like that in the film. I think the main thing I always seem to remember about The Princess Bride is how it's such a great adventure, but if I really think about it, the best parts of the movie are not the action parts, but the wonderfully bizarre and quirky dialogue moments. It's a very fun movie.
My name is Inigo Montoya... You kill my fatha ... propere to die...
This movie was awsome...I havent seen it in a long time have have it taped off SuperChannel somewhere...and its a total Adventure movie...
TOOLDES :D
This movie was awesome. I love the scene with Vizzini and Dread Pirate with the two glasses of wine.
I’m so sorry to hear about you back polbrems! Having polbrems with back pain myself, I know how painful it can be. I’m the same way when it comes to my husband and his work. I just had an incident where I had to go to the hospital. DH was on alert… they flew him back by helicopter… he has to give status reports to his commander on my health- it’s embarrasing!!! I just want to be able to handle it all on my own as well. Though I don’t think it’s unbiblical for a husband to help his wife! We’re here to help and care for each other. Hope your back feels better soon!

Regardless of what some, uh, “popular” athuors would say, I believe marriage is a partnership. When you are in pain or ill, you need help. Your husband should know about it and take care of you. If we want to get Biblical about it we could say that this is one of the many ways that husbands are to love their wives and to serve them as the “weaker vessel.”I have been debilitated with back pain before. Sometimes there is no possible way to go on without significant help from the spouse. Once the kids are older it may be more possible to get along with just the kids helping, but that ain’t now, sistah! So sorry your back is hurting. I will be praying for you. Get thee to the chiro!
