South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut

If you're able to get past the incredible vulgarity of South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut, you'll hopefully notice that it's actually a very smart satire on a wide variety of subjects, including the effects of "adult" films on young audiences and parental responsability for their children's behaviour. For example, Kyle Broslofski's mom exclaims, after the South Park kids attend an obscenity-laden "foreign film from Canada", that "Horrific, deplorable violence in movies is okay, as long as there aren't any naughty words!".

But putting all that stuff aside, the South Park movie has a wonderfully entertaining amount of horrific, deplorable violence and naughty words. I remember that, during the first time I saw this, I was almost just as shocked and surprised at the amount of swearing in Bigger Longer & Uncut as the South Park kids were at their first screening of Terrance & Phillip: Asses of Fire, the 'Canadian' film-within-the-film that stirs up controversy among the South Park parents and eventually leads them to arrest and plan the execution of Terrance and Phillip. Among many other hilarious side-stories, the focus of the film is on the efforts of Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny to rescue their two heros.

I was also surprised upon first seeing Bigger Longer & Uncut to discover that it's a musical. And it's not any sort of lame, hastily-written musical -- it's a really good musical, with music that's probably just as memorable, if not more-so, than anything heard in other modern musicals like Moulin Rouge or Chicago.

Because of the great music, really funny dialogue, and yes, the intelligent satire, South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut is a really good film.

Didn't a song from south park get an emmy or something?

"Blame Canada" was nominated for an Oscar. Some stupid Phil Collins song won, however... and the Aimee Mann song "Save Me" from Magnolia should've won.
